The Conflict And Governance Of Wenzhou Society In The Late Qing Dynasty

The anti-church movements broke out in the north China in 1900,while in the south,the same movement broke out in Wenzhou.Wenzhou is a relatively closed geographical area,with mountains and seas separated,land shortage characteristics,and this area is often affected by typhoons,rainstorms and other natural disasters.This characteristic and influence gradually developed into a major social problem,which is the contradiction between people and land with the increasing population of Wenzhou since the Ming and Qing dynasty.This contradiction is declining because of Kong Fu、 strong clan、poor culture,which are more likely to develop into conflict.In addition,during this period,the oppression of the Church also became an important cause of the outbreak of conflict.The protagonist of the conflict is an organization called the Shenquanhui,whose origin is influenced by the Gelaohui,whose congregation is mainly composed of farmers,local boxers and some squires.The whole movement can be divided into three stages,mainly in the second stage,the main content of the Shenquanhui will persecute the parish,church and local officers and soldiers and regiment training organizations to put out the Shenquan Organization.In addition,throughout the conflict,Wenzhou society for their own interests of all levels of the attitude and response to the Shenquanhui are obvious differences,such as the gentry class,they consider that the interests in the conflict will inevitably be damaged,so they will firmly oppose the Shenquanhui.They actively prepare for the regiment training organizations and set up donations to hit the Shenquanhui.After the conflict,the urgentest thing is to solve the potential social problems for Wenzhou people.Under the leadership of yirang Sun and other people,Wenzhou society vigorously sets up school education,develops the economy and changes the customs,so they got many remarkable results and Wenzhou society began to move towards modernization.
