| As an important pioneer of modern Chinese literary circles,Yu Dafu constructed a modern "self" image represented by characters such as "he","Yiren","Yu Zhifu" and "I" in the world of novels. The awakened "self",as a modern consciousness of human beings, has become an important characteristic of the times in the social transformation period of the "May 4th Movement",and it has become an important theme that distinguishes modern literature from traditional literature during the "May 4th Movement" period. On the one hand, the generation of modernity "self" as the inner soul of Yu Dafu’s novels participates in and guides the process of the writer’s regulation and control of the novel’s narrative strategy. It is also generated and shaped by the external form of the novel’s narrative strategy.Analysis is the only way to explore the construction of modernity "self".On the other hand, this modernity "self" image has a distinct growth trajectory: independent from the modern space, using romantic resources as the discourse to establish its own identity.Through the internal reflection of the individual,he grows into a modern subject with introspective consciousness. Therefore, this article focuses on the typical narrative strategies of Yu Dafu’s novels, from three different perspectives(spatial form,"insertion" and metaphor),to explore the true face of the modern "self" in Yu Dafu’s novels. In view of this, this paper is divided into the following four parts:The first chapter uses the space theory of Bachelard,Benjamin, and Foucault, and takes the space form in the novel as the object of investigation, showing the essence of "self" independent of modern space. The first section starts from the individual’s private realm residence, and explores the stable attributes that the residence should have and its substantial suppression and expulsion of modern individuals, revealing the generation of wanderers. The second section focuses on the lonely person in the public space of the tavern, and through the different appearances of the Japanese tavern and the Chinese tavern,it reproduces the individual’s complaints against the society and the lurking conflict in the modern space. The third section uses the tram as a modern transportation tool.As an entry point,it shows the modern spatial experience of transnational and transregional and the dilemma of the odd people brought by it.The "spatial representation method" constitutes a relatively fixed narrative strategy in Yu Dafu’s novels.Individuals in the residence are often depressed, individuals in the tavern tend to lose control, and individuals in the tram tend to be connected to the country and nation. This has become the spatial framework and narrative tone of the modernity "self" image in his novels. The second chapter is based on Miller’s theory of "insertion",taking the insertion of western texts,old-style poems, letters and diaries as the object of investigation, showing the romantic resources and the generation of new meanings in Yu Dafu’s novels as the basis of discourse. The first section explores the sublimation value of the protagonist’s sentimental image brought by the external identity of the western text in the novel;the second section reveals the purifying value of the lyrical meaning of the old-style poetry in the novel;the third section shows how the letters and diaries in the novel reveal the true self.As a discourse resource, literary symbols from different sources become the spiritual foundation for the imaginative and continuous existence of the lonely and anxious self after the spatial form."I read","I recite",and "I write" are different from the current text "insertion" continue to participate in the process of self-image construction, and finally generates a perceptual self standing at the intersection of China and the West, tradition and modernity, reality and fiction. The third chapter starts from the perspective of narratology and psychology, and uses the classic theories of Mick,Wayne Booth,Freud,Sontag,Brownshaw,Giddens and others to narrate metaphors. The strategy is the focus of discussion, focusing on the internal reflection of the modern "self",which is also an important manifestation of self-maturity.The first section analyzes the mental illness of the body, which as an internal consciousness component of the body, hides a hostile attitude towards the outside world;the second section explores the "pornographic description" of Yu Dafu’s novels, and analyzes its specific immoral appearance and progress. The third section discusses the writing of "suicide" in the novel. As a state of individual existence,it embodies the self-conscious grasp of one’s own destiny.Mental problems, lust problems, and suicide problems present themselves as individual life phenomena as well as social phenomena. They not only speak of self-personal experience, but also expand it into a national experience in a macro-scope,and rise to the opposite, establishing the imagination of a powerful new country and new citizens. The fourth chapter is about the value and influence of modern "self" construction in Yu Dafu’s novels, reviewing and summarizing the thinking of the whole thesis. The first section explores the role of modernity "self" in Yu Dafu’s novels from the perspective of the writer’s own to the artist’s "self-salvation";the second section discusses the role of modern "self" construction in promoting the form of "auto-narrative" novels from the perspective of literary history;the third section focuses on the multiple influences of the modern "self" on youth from the perspective of the times,in order to gain a complete understanding and provide a new idea for future research. |
