| The practice report aims at analyzing the influence of prefabricated chunks(PCs)in terms of improving the fluency of the Chinese-English simultaneous interpreting based on an online lecture given by Professor Lin Yifu,the Dean of the School of New Structural Economics of Peking University.PCs refer to a string of words which we store as a whole in our memory,so that they can be retrieved immediately without the steps of the generation and analysis of grammar.According to Nattinger and De Carrico’s taxonomy,PCs are classified into four categories: Poly-words,Institutionalized Expressions,Phrasal Constraints and Sentence Builders.Many empirical studies have shown that interpreters can improve the fluency of interpretation by accumulating and flexibly using PCs.First,The author examines the classification and features of PCs.Then,summarizes the problems of disfluency.Finally,with the characteristics of PCs considered,the author puts forward some solutions to improving the fluency of interpretation.It is found that there is a tight relationship between the usage of PCs and the fluency of the target language.The causes of the disfluency can be outlined as follows: high density of information,weak short-term memory,and inappropriate Chinese-English expressions.Addressing the disfluency in simultaneous interpreting through PCs’ lens helps provide suggestions for other interpretng learners to improve their professional competence in subsequent training and practice. |
