| Human society is developing rapidly today,and as a result,the natural environment has suffered increasingly severe consequences caused by frequent human activities,which has attracted widespread attention from all walks of life,and has also put forth the development of ecolinguistics in China.Before the work of Arne N(?)sse,the Norwegian philosopher,the role of the standard for judging the ideology of discourse construction was largely unknown.The proposal of the concept refers to a series of attitudes,values and hypotheses related to the environment,which meets the requirement of the sustainable development of the ecosystem.Ecological discourse analysis,a branch of ecolinguistics,focuses on the relationship between the environment and human beings,as well as other species.It aims at revealing the discourse practice which causes ecological destruction and pursues the sustainable development of the ecological society.Engagement System is one of the sub-categories of Appraisal Theory,which was developed by Martin and White in the 1990 s based on interpersonal function.Seen as an extension and complement to Halliday’s Systemic Functional Linguistics,it is a language resource used to express one’s stances and attitudes,which contains the potential meaning of negotiating with the respondent.Engagement System is taken as the theoretical foundation to conduct ecological discourse analysis.Hence,this thesis analyzes the engagement resources employed in New Energy Vehicle(NEV)related news from the perspective of ecological discourse analysis.First,50 pieces of news released from December of 2019 to June of 2020 were selected from Autoblog,with a total number of 23,000 words.Then the engagement resources in the news were annotated under the guidance of Appraisal Theory and Stibbe’s ecosophy of "Living!".Finally,based on the statistics obtained from a corpus analysis apllication: UAM Corpus Tool 3.3,quantitative and qualitative analyses were made in order to reveal the distributions,ecological discourse constructions and roles of the engagement resources in NEV related news.The research aims to answer three questions:(1)What engagement resources are engaged in NEV related news?(2)How are the engagement resources employed in NEV news on Autoblog to achieve ecological discourse construction?(3)What are the roles of the engagement resources involved in NEV related news on Autoblog? Whether these engagement resources present the "ecological features" in the news?It is found that(1)engagement resources were largely applied in NEV related news on Autoblog,a total of 1258.In NEV related news on Autoblog,heterogloss resources were most frequently employed,with a total number of 774,taking up61.53%,monogloss resources accounted for as 38.47%,with the number of 484.In terms of heterogloss,acknowledge resources to accounted for the highest proportion,with the percentage of 23.53%.In monogloss,assertion was most frequently engaged with the percentage of 25.03%.(2)In terms of ecological discourse construction,engagement resources in the news showed features of beneficial,neutral and destructive.As for the stances,engagement resources in beneficial stances comprised the majority parts of NEV related news,with the proportion of 62.22%.Hence it can be safe to say that NEV related news on Autoblog(labels "green")held a positive attitude towards the ecological maintenance and protection,achieving positive ecological discourse practice.(3)These engagement resources employed in NEV news mainly achieved three functions,including reporting the facts of new energy vehicles,such as the prospect of new energy vehicles,relative policies,development impediments,challenges and so on;forming an alliance with targeted readers through collocating engagement resources with personal pronouns.These engagement resources presented "ecological features" and "non-ecological features" in the news and verified the stances of the discourses.This research has the following significance: First,it provides new insights into the study of new energy vehicle news discourse especially from the perspective of ecological discourse analysis.Second,this thesis verifies the feasibility that Appraisal Theory can be employed as a theoretical foundation in EDA.Third,it is making an important contribution to the domestic research,marketing positioning,and promotion of new energy vehicles. |
