A Report On The Translation Of SYPCEC 2018 Annual Report From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

An annual report is an informative text,which focuses on the transmission of information.As an important channel of releasing information to shareholders and other parties,it shows management condition,governance structure,financial data and other important information of the listed company in detail.Besides,with the rapid development of economic globalization,international trade cooperation and exchanges are increasingly frequent.Therefore,the accurate translation of the annual report becomes particularly crucial.The text of translation practice is selected from SYPCEC 2018 annual report.Under the guidance of Skopos theory,this report analyzes the problems encountered in the translation process at lexical,syntactic and discourse level,and it summarizes the corresponding translation strategies of annual reports.To be specific,firstly,at lexical level,literal translation,omission and paraphrasing are used to translate proper nouns,category words and culture-loaded words.Secondly,at syntactic level,addition and recasting are applied to translate non-subject sentences as well as long and complex sentences.Thirdly,at discourse level,internal logical relation and external cohesive devices are highly valued to achieve the cohesion and coherence of translation.In brief,it is expected to enrich the application of Skopos theory to the translation of annual reports of petrochemical industry,and provide reference for further study of the translation of similar texts.
