A Report On The E-C Translation Of The Narrative Text Of "The Wild Ones"

This translation report is guided by the theory of functional equivalence,with The Wild Ones from The Atavist Magazine as its source text.As a kind of narrative literary work,narrative texts explain the philosophy of life and share the wisdom of life through vivid stories and respectable characters.Narrative texts are characterized by long and complex sentences.Therefore,different translation methods are adopted according to its characteristics in the process of translating this kind of narrative text.The translation tries to convey the meaning of the original text as accurately as possible,so that the readers of the target text will receive the same feedback as the readers of the original one.Based on Nida’s functional equivalence theory,the typical cases of The Wild Ones are illustrated from lexical,syntactic and textual levels,focusing on the analysis of the application of translation methods,such as amplification,omission,division and sequential translation in the translation practice.Under the effective guidance of functional equivalence theory,the translation tries to achieve equivalence at lexical,syntactic and textual levels,aiming to conduct a detailed study on the translation of narrative texts.By analyzing the key and difficult problems in the process of translation under the guidance of Nida’s functional equivalence theory,this report summarizes the translation methods for narrative texts,expecting to provide some reference for the future translation of narrative texts in foreign journals to help promote cross-cultural communication.
