A Study On The Literary Translation Of Qiancao-Chenzhong Society Based On The Relevance Between Its Literary Proposition And Translation | | Posted on:2022-07-15 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:X R Lin | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2505306320992859 | Subject:Translation science | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | As an important literary society after the May 4th Movement,the Qiancao-chenzhong Society has made a stand in the history of new literature with its unique literary pursuit and outstanding creative achievements.However,the literary translation section in its periodicals has not been duly recognized in the studies of translation history,which has become a small blind spot in the study of modern Chinese translation history and needs further exploration and discussion.Drawing from the Micro-history and the concept of “field” in translation studies,this paper probes into the literary translation activities of Wen Yi Xun Kan in 1923-1924,Wen Yi Zhou Kan in 1924,and Chenzhong in 1925-1927 and 1932-1934 by adopting the model of Descriptive Translation Studies.The paper further sheds light on the internal relationship between the literary propositions and the translations by examining the paratext of members’ letters,aiming to better show the essential characteristics of translation as a social activity and the significance of periodical literature translation in the historical process of the Chinese society.The Qiancao Society emerged at the ebb tide period of May 4th Movement while the Chenzhong Society formed amid the confused conflicts between the Warlords and the Northern Expedition.The change of historical environment led to the change of literary propositions.The Qiancao Society did not have a clear literary proposition,and its members were mostly in a state of vacillation.In stark contrast,the Chenzhong Society strove for art and for life.Through translation,the members of the Qiancao Society sought to reach reconciliation between Chinese and Western culture and to revive Chinese culture.The number of translations has increased from Wen Yi Xun Kan and Wen Yi Zhou Kan to Chenzhong,suggesting that the members of the society paid more and more attention to translation.The Qiancao Society accepted the dual influence of Chinese and Western culture with an inclusive cultural attitude,while the Chenzhong Society highlighted realism.The translation subjects of the two societies show great relevance with their literary propositions.The innovation of this paper is to explore the role of translations in promoting and highlighting the change of literary propositions by analyzing the letters of correspondence between members of the societies.The paper finally focuses on the special issue of “Edgar Allan Poe and E.T.A.Hoffmann” to explore the influence of translations on the literary propositions,and to further explore the interaction between the translations and the creations of the members. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Qiancao-chenzhong Society, Wen Yi Xun Kan, Wen Yi Zhou Kan, Chenzhong, Micro-history | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
