Zheng Tianting is a famous historian in modern China.His parents died when he was young,and he grew up under the care of his relatives with his younger brother.In 1917,Zheng Tianting was admitted to Peking University to study for a master’s degree under the tutelage of Qian Xuantong.In 1924,Zheng began to teach at Peking University.In 1933,he was invited by the president of Peking University,Jiang Menglin,and served as the secretary general of Peking University.In 1936,he began to teach in the history department of Peking University,teaching the history of the Wei,Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties.After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War,National Peking University,National Tsinghua University and private Nankai University established the National Southwest Associated University in Kunming,Yunnan Province.Zheng Tianting in Peiping side and the Japanese aggressors,while covering the south of Peking University teachers and students.During his eight years in Southwest Associated University,Zheng Tianting undertook the complicated administrative and educational affairs on the one hand;On the other hand,he is devoted to his own academic research and teaching.In the first year of its establishment,the School of Liberal Arts moved to Mengzi.Upon his arrival,Zheng Tianting immediately devoted himself to the construction of the dormitory and the reception of teachers and students.In 1939,he helped to establish the Institute of Liberal Arts at Peking University and served as its deputy director.In 1940,Zheng Tianting served as the general director of the Southwest Associated University and participated in the establishment and dissolution of the Xuyong Campus of the United Nations General Assembly and the demobilization of the United Nations General Assembly.During this period,Zheng Tianting actively coordinated the relations between the three universities,safeguarded the interests of teachers and students,and contributed greatly to the unity and stability of the United Nations General Assembly.During his time at the UN General Assembly,he was engaged in studies on the history of ethnic groups in the southwest frontier areas and the history of the Ming and Qing Dynasties,and produced a number of influential academic achievements.He also practiced the concept of academic service to the country and delivered speeches around Yunnan in his spare time,combining academic research with local needs.Apart from administrative duties and teaching and research,Zheng Tianting’s daily life at the UN General Assembly also included his missing for his family and his care for his children.During the period of the UN General Assembly,he also formed good friendship with Luo Changpei,Jiang Menglin,Mei Yiqi,Chen Yinque and others. |
