The source text of this translation report is chosen from Selected Stories from Tibetan Gnomic Works compiled by He Wenxuan, the Professor of Northwest Minzu University. This monograph contains 100 Tibetan gnomic stories and gnomic verses, which are concise and philosophical. The translation materials involved in this report are selected from the 34th to 67th gnomic story and gnomic verse of the monograph, mainly including the stories of ghosts, gods, people and animals in Buddhism and mythology.Although these stories involve different aspects and are rich in religious color, they all embody the theme of punishing the evil and promoting the good and advocating justice, which is of great significance for developing Chinese national culture. It is difficult to translate national classics into English because such texts contain many culture loaded words. From the perspective of Typology Theory, the source texts selected in this report are both expressive and vocative texts. The translator, according to the characteristics of the source texts, carefully analyzes the differences between English and Chinese, takes the thick translation theory as the guiding theory, and mainly adopts the translation methods of additions in the text and footnotes outside the text to carry out the translation practice. This translation report, except for the Introduction and Conclusion, consists of four chapters that mainly include the following contents:the first chapter introduces the general situation of this translation practice. The second one describes the translation task from the research background, significance and objectives, and makes a brief analysis of the source text. The third one is the theoretical basis of this translation practice, mainly including the origin of thick translation theory, research status at home and abroad and its main forms. The last one is the case study, which is also the main content of this report. The main purpose of thick translation is addition. Therefore, the translator mainly supplements the key words of the source text with information, grammar and background knowledge from the two aspects of additions in the text and footnotes outside the text,so as to enrich the cultural connotation of the translation. Finally, the translator sums up the key and difficult problems in the process of translation and the translation methods, and makes a brief summary of the translation practice.
