Research On Yuan Wu’s Freehand Figure Painting And My Creative Practice

Compared with meticulous figure painting,Chinese ink figure painting developed relatively late.From the creation of Liang Kai in Song Dynasty to the Ming Dynasty,a limited number of landscape painters such as Wu Wei,Zhang Lu,Xu Wei and Ren Bonian began to study freehand brushwork figures.In Chinese ink figure painting,what we pay attention to is the method of writing,the method of ink and the method of water.The proportion of ink and water depends on the painter’s own cultivation,but the key lies in the brush.If the brush is deficient,the ink will not have luster.Chinese ink figure painting has been developing vigorously in the efforts of artists,and has developed a wealth of ink techniques.Yuan Wu is one of them.After years of research,he created a "dead ink" painting method.His painting language,which combines the virtual and the real,combines simplicity with complexity,not only inherits the traditional Chinese ink figure painting,but also breaks through the tradition,dares to innovate and learns from Western Art forms.In the past 15 years,Yuan Wu’s ink figure painting has been the focus of attention.Yuan Wu is able to become an important representative of ink figure painting in the new era because he can inherit the essence of the tradition and get rid of the shackles of the tradition,accurately grasp the development direction of modern ink figure painting,and form his own unique ink techniques and painting language in the development of aesthetic consciousness and personality.Yuan Wu’s ink figure painting tends to be realistic,but it needs quotation marks,because his ink figure is more important to express people’s inner world and convey people’s feelings.Therefore,this paper analyzes the characteristics of Yuan Wu’s painting from the aspects of his painting theme,ink,color,the relationship between ink and color,and diversified composition forms,so as to understand the painting language conveyed by his characters.Next,the author combines with Yuan Wu’s ink figure painting practice and thinking.In my personal practice and exploration,with the help of Yuan Wu’s ink and wash performance techniques and rich painting language,I integrate the artistic essence of ink and wash with the spiritual world conveyed by people,and form my own painting language and independent spiritual outlook.
