“The Overseas Promotion of Chinese Culture” is China’s latest strategy. As an important part of my country’s culture, the external promotion of tourism culture has also received great attention. In recent years,Chinese tourism has been favored by many foreign tourists. As an important medium for external publicity, tourism texts cover a large amount of geographical, historical and literary information. Thus the quality of its translation directly affects the implementation effect of the strategy. In view of this, the translation study of tourism texts is imminent and of great significance. The three northeastern provinces including Heilongjiang,Jilin and Liaoning Province, have rich human resources and historical deposits, and are three Chinese tourist cities with strong local cultural characteristics. However, according to literature verification, there are only a few documents systematically discussing tourism translation on the three Northeastern cities. Moreover, the quality of some existing translations is not accurate enough, especially for some cultural information unique to the Northeast.Given this, the translator wants to conduct research on the translation of Northeast tourism texts. This project is the C-E translation of the book Traveling Around China—Hei Ji Liao. Thanks to the trust of Harbin International Travel Agency, the author is responsible for the translation of the second and third chapter of the book:the Travel Guide for the Harbin area in the Heilongjiang Province, including Ice and Snow World,Xiao Hong’s Former Residence,Central Street,Sun Island,Siberian Tiger Forest Park and other scenic spots. In the research process, the translator chose Hu Gengshen’s ecological translation theory and Nord’s text analysis theory as the theoretical basis.First the text analysis theory is used to analyze the in-text and extra-text factors of the source text. Then, according to the ecological translation theory, starting from the three dimensions of language, communication and culture, the translation of vocabulary and sentence in the tourism texts of Northeast China is discussed.According to the translation practice, the difficulty of vocabulary translation is mainly reflected on the following three aspects: spot name,four-character phrases and culturally loaded words. For these vocabulary, the translator summarizes some translation methods, such as literal translation, borrowed translation, addition, omission, free translation, transliteration, and so on.The difficulty of sentence translation is mainly reflected in three aspects: logically-confusing long sentences,non-subject sentences and ancient verses. When translating sentences, the translator again summarized several strategies, such as “restructuring”,“splitting and reorganizing”,and “deleting and reorganizing”.Throughout the entire translation practice, the translator, from the perspective of adapting to the target readers, takes the pursuit of “semantic equivalence” as the primary goal, and “formal equivalence” as the second goal, discusses and analyzes the text characteristics and translation methods of Northeast tourism texts.Through this project,on one hand, the translator aims to improve the quality of the translation of tourism texts on Northeast China, show the characteristics of Northeast culture to the greatest extent, and promote the globalization of Northeast culture. On the other hand,it is hoped that the translation strategies summarized in this project can be useful for those researchers engaged in tourism text translation and the final translation can provide convenience for tourists who travel to Northeast China,so that the translation can play its expected functions and effects.
