As the essence of traditional culture, poetry, which is rich in content and elegant in words,is a culture carrier that vividly reflects social status. With cultural exchanges strengthened worldwide, poetry translation has gradually become a means of cultural communication, and it has attracted both domestic and foreign scholars’ attention.Eco-translatology,a newly-born native translation theory, has been widely applied to studies on text translation, and meanwhile studies on poetry translation from this perspective are defective. Moreover, the “Han,Wei and Six Dynasties” period is one of the most essential periods for the development of Chinese classical poetry, and Xu Yuanchong has insightful views on poetry translation of this period. Therefore,in this thesis,Golden Treasury of Chinese Poetry in Han,Wei and Six Dynasties translated by Xu Yuanchong is taken as an example for poetry translation analysis from the Eco-translatology perspective. As for research methods, qualitative analysis, literature research, and case study are mainly applied in the thesis, among which three concepts as “translational eco-environment”,“translator-centeredness” and “three-dimensional transformation”are used as the overall framework of the thesis.Elements that influence translations are also discussed from the perspective of Eco-translatology,which mainly focuses on the translational eco-environment’s influence and translator-centeredness’ s influence. In this thesis, the poetry translation analysis is centered on linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions of the three-dimensional transformation principle. What’s more, major findings and limitations are summarized throughout the poetry translation analysis of Golden Treasury of Chinese Poetry in Han,Wei and Six Dynasties. The major findings of the research are as follows. For the linguistic dimension, words loaded with features of the target culture and the figure of speech “rhyme” are frequently used in Xu Yuanchong’s version. In most cases, expressions in translations are in accord with requirements of the three-dimensional transformation principle, even though sometimes literal translation may cause ambiguity in understanding. As for the cultural dimension, target texts usually conform to the target culture, which may partly lead to some loss of cultural features of the source language in translation. From the communicative dimension, the author’s communicative intentions in the source text are transformed properly in Xu’s version. In brief,Xu’s version is successful in the reflection of the proper adaptive selection and the transformation of linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions even under the influence of different translation factors. It is hoped that this study can broaden the research scope of Eco-translatology,carry forward the value of Xu Yuanchong’s version and function as a reference for future studies on poetry translation.
