Abstract/Summary:
Eight Concert Etudes,as a masterpiece of Russian composer Nikolai Kapustin in his mature period, has distinct characteristics of jazz style.Although many literatures have studied and analyzed this work from the aspect of performance technique, musical form structure and humanity, few people have made in-depth analysis on the organizational structure of pitch of this work. This paper will take Eight Concert Etudes(Op.40)as the research object, and carefully analyze the musical elements of the music structure, pitch material, rhythm and other aspects throughout the whole work.Combine the knowledge learned, give rational, objective analysis. To prove why it is called classical music with the "jazz" label. To find out where the "jazz flavor" comes from under the framework of classical pitch organization, and how the traditional techniques in jazz are inherited. The first part of this paper will describe the composer’s life experience and the creation background of his works. After that,I will sort out the tonal layout of the whole Divercion, and analyze the structure of each single, trying to find out the connection and difference with traditional music from the structure. The focus of the whole text will analyze and sort out the pitch materials throughout the whole song, and summarize them from the vertical and horizontal aspects. The horizontal mode, the vertical and diverse chord structure, the tritone chord replacement method, and the use of external chord represent the inheritance and breakthrough of tradition,as well as the pursuit of composite sound in jazz music.Trying to find out how composers blended jazz with classical styles; The horizontal movement of pitch forms the voice parts of the narrative piece, exploring how the composer organized the static pitch material in a dynamic manner; In terms of rhythm and beat, backbeat rhythm, rhythm variation and the unconventional use of harmonic rhythm, many techniques make the work have a strong jazz flavor and improve the overall structural force of the work. Finally,it will demonstrate Kapastyn’s aesthetic view of the composer in the context of the prevalence of the third trend of music, and prove that Kapastyn’s aesthetic view is completely consistent with the third trend by studying the use of "Hermiola" in terms of rhythm, blues tri-sentence,and the evolution of pitch.
