This thesis takes Tim Parks’s book about literary criticism The Novel:A Survival Skill as the English translation text under the guidance of J.C.Catford’s Translation Shifts Theory to explore the applicability of level shifts and category shifts with the language characteristics of the original text.Firstly,the author analyzes the language characteristics of the original text in the Chapter 2 of this thesis,and gives a comprehensive introduction to the Translation Shifts Theory.Secondly,in the Chapter 4,the author analyzes the translation cases from the lexical and syntactic level with the level shifts,structure-shifts,class-shifts,unit-shifts and intra-system-shifts.Finally,the Catford’s Translation Shifts Theory has a strong guidance and applicability to the original text to a certain extent,and it also provides a new perspective for future research scholars to carry out translation practice activities and improve the quality of translation. |
