| The stylistic rules of "Shuobu",can be traced back to Liu Xiang’s Shuo Yuan and Liu Yiqing’s Shi Shuo Xin Yu.According to current materials,in Yanzhou Four Manuscripts written by Wang Shizhen in the Ming Dynasty,"Shuobu" first appeared in the form of an independent category.Since then, many books have followed this concept. As a catalogue of official revision of the Qing Dynasty, the General Catalogue of the Complete Works of the Four Databases did not set up the category of "Shuobu",but"Shuobu",as a concept, was widely found in writing. The concept of "Shuobu" in the General Catalogue is rather vague. Its connotation is not clear, and the denotation is not clearly defined. In the General Catalogue, the word"Shuobu" covers the four databases of Jing,Shi,Zi and Ji,involving 3 books of Jing,23 books of Shi,108 books of Zi and 21 books of Ji,making a total of 155 books. These books can be classified into five categories:those who are really "Shuobu" books, those who resemble "Shuobu" books, those who use "Shuobu" books, those who compile "Shuobu" books, and others."Those who are really Shuobu books" are distributed in Shi and Zi.There is a relatively clear statement in the synopses of this kind of books, which indicates that these books are "Shuobu"books recognized by the ministers,so they are the most direct materials reflecting the concept of "Shuobu" in the General Catalogue. The synopses of"those who resemble Shuobu books"often appear expressions such as "its stylistic rule is similar to Shuobu"."Those who use Shuobu books" refer to and quote other materials of "Shuobu" works, and "those who compile Shuobu books" are compile many other "Shuobu" works. These three kinds of books are helpful to summarize the characteristics of "Shuobu" in the General Catalogue, and play a side supporting role in the analysis of the concept.Books in "others" are not useful for the analysis of the concept of "Shuobu" in the General Catalogue,so they are not used as analytical materials. The use of the concept of "Shuobu" in the General Catalogue has its characteristics from three dimensions:content, style and stylistic rules. In different context, some obviously focus on a certain dimension, while some use "Shuobu" to refer to this kind of books directly by integrating the three dimensions. This is actually a sketch of the appearance of "Shuobu" books in the General Catalogue. But the content of the book covers a wide range, style and stylistic rules also is not a single,so all the three dimensions characterized by "miscellaneous".In the General Catalogue, the tendency of praising and criticizing the books of"Shuobu" roughly revolves around two aspects:academic value and historical value. This reflects the academic atmosphere at that time which attached great importance to textual research, and the historical concept of the ministers. It is also greatly related to the nature of the official school and the restriction of the political and educational functions of the book. The seven books in Tang Dynasty,Song Dynasty,Yuan Dynasty,Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty,as typical "Shuobu" works which were highly evaluated by the ministers, more intuitionarily displayed the characteristics of "Shuobu" books in the General Catalogue. In the evolution of the concept of "Shuobu",the General Catalogue plays a role of connecting the past with the future. From the birth of the word"Shuobu" to the publication of the General Catalogue, some books took "Shuobu" as an independent category. The articles included in these books are similar in content and stylistic rules to those in the General Catalogue. It can be seen that the concept of "Shuobu" in the General Catalogue inherits the concept of "Shuobu" in previous works to some extent. After the completion of the General Catalogue, there appeared many books related to"Shuobu" in modern times. From the content and value orientation of the stories in these books, the concept of "Shuobu" in the General Catalogue still influenced later generations to a certain extent. |
