| In literary works,metaphor,as one of the main metaphor devices,plays a very imperative role in enhancing the readability and vividness of language.In the current metaphor study at home and abroad,people are more likely to use metaphor to describe things that cannot be fully discovered with normal expressions in literary works,and significant achievements have been made in metaphor studies.However,the translation methods of metaphors in literary works have been seldom categorized or applied to actual translation activities.Therefore,to further explore the translation strategies of metaphors in literary works and provide a reference for future translation of metaphors in literary works,the author of this report selects the new work The Beauty of Broken Things written by the famous British female writer Victoria Connelly as the research object.Under the guidance of Skopos Theory,the translation methods of structural metaphors,orientational metaphors,and ontological metaphors are analyzed and studied.The writer adopts the research method of translating the source text,classifying different metaphors,and then analyzing,and found that since the text is expressive,structural metaphors in such literary works are used frequently.In the translation process,the translation methods of literal translation,rewriting and free translation,picture mapping,part-of-speech conversion,synonymous word substitution,adding words,and four-character words can be used to express the language of the source text more vividly,and at the same time,it can also enhance the translation readability.This translation task has many meanings.Through the translation of the text,the author of this report summarized the experience in the research process and improved her literary translation ability.Besides,if the translators who make researches on literary works’ translation or do such translation jobs can carefully follow the translation principles to translate such literary texts,then the translation research of literary texts will have further development,which has theoretical guiding significance and reference value for the translators. |
