| China is the biggest developing country in the world, while Africa is home to the largest number of developing countries. It is the same history and destiny that bring Chinese and Africans together.China and African countries have established their diplomatic relations since 1956.China has maintained stable cooperation with African countries since the beginning of 21st century, however, most of the Chinese do not get due understanding of our partners.Partner countries are expected to have a promisingly solid and sincere relationships if the customs, cultures and suffering histories of them are mutually understood.Oroonoko:or the Royal Slave, which was written by Aphra Behn,a British writer, were selected as the translation material in this translation practice report. As the first travel novel in British literature,Oroonoko:or,the Royal Slave creates the first noble savage. This novel tells a love story about prince Oroonoko and Imoinda, the concubine of Oroonoko’s grandfather, highlighting the influences of the European colonialism and black slave trade on African people. The translator hopes that this translation practice program can help readers to understand the past suffering of the African people.Under the guidance of the Eco-translatology,the translator solved the translation problems of words, phrases and clauses by means of the translation method of "three-dimensional transformations".That is,the adaptive selection of the linguistic dimension, the adaptive selection of the cultural dimension and the adaptive selection of the communicative dimension.Through the adaptive selection of the linguistic dimension, the translation can present the language style of the source language text with more coherent structure;through the adaptive selection of the cultural dimension, the cultural images in the source language text can adapt to the target cultural system;through the adaptive selection of the communicative dimension, the translation may deliver the communicative intention of the author and the source language text. Finally,a conclusion can be drawn as follows:the key of the translation of novel texts is to reproduce the protagonists’ characteristics, enrich the plots of the story, solve the problems caused by cultural differences, make expressions more accurate in the target language system and deliver the communicative information of the author and the source language text to the target readers. This conforms to the concept of three-dimension of Eco-translatology.In the process of translating this kind of texts, under the guidance of Eco-translatology,the translator should flexibly adjust word orders and sentence structures, avoid cultural misunderstandings and efficiently deliver the communicative intention of the source language text and the author, with the translation techniques of addition, omission, division, combination and shift. |
