| For middle school English education,textbook is not only an important basis for teaching and learning but also an important carrier of cultural information.In CSSE(2017),cultural awareness is one of the core qualities.CSSE(2017)requires the cultivation of students’ cultural awareness and intercultural communicative competence,and makes clear requirements for the arrangement of cultural knowledge in textbooks.In the autumn of 2019,the compulsory part of NSE was published,with a total of three volumes.The new edition of the textbook is the high school of the English textbook,which is launched by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press on the basis of full investigation and scientific demonstration according to CSSE(2017)formulated by the Ministry of education.The new version of the textbook will be gradually popularized in some regions after its pilot use,so the research on this version of the English textbook is of great practical significance.The research focuses on:1.What is the overall distribution of cultural content in NSE(2019)?2.How is the cultural content presented in NSE(2019)?3.What are the differences in distribution and presentation of cultural content among the three textbooks?This thesis combines the theory of English culture teaching and the theory of teaching material analysis and evaluation as well as the more comprehensive framework of English culture content analysis in related research,adopts the method of text analysis,takes interviews as the research tool,and takes NSE(2019)compulsory 1-3 volumes as the research object.This study combines cultural content with cultural region,unit module,theme context,text type and presentation symbols to analyze the textbook.Through the researcher’s research and analysis,the following findings are found: 1.From the perspective of cultural content selection,as a whole,the cultural content in the compulsory part of NSE(2019)is mainly spiritual culture;combined with regional analysis,the cultural content is mainly target language culture and native language culture.2.From the perspective of the presentation of cultural content in NSE(2019),the distribution of cultural content in the context of the three themes is relatively uniform;there are certain amount of distribution differences in different units and modules;Cultural content is mostly in expository text,argumentative paper,applied text,and new discourse forms such as new media discourse and dialogue interview are added;cultural content is mostly in the form of information symbol combination.This edition of the textbook has rich and comprehensive cultural content,distinct hierarchical structure and various forms,which provides strong support for the cultivation of students’ intercultural communication ability.3.As a whole,compulsory2 and compulsory3 contain more cultural contents than compulsory1.The differences in the selection and presentation of cultural content in the three volumes match with the different learning stages of students.The three compulsory sets have implemented the nine requirements for cultural content in the CSSE(2017).Through interviews with five front-line teachers,the author learned that the teachers are basically appreciative of the cultural content in the new textbooks.In view of the analysis results,the author puts forward his own suggestions on teachers’ cultural teaching and textbook compilation,which provides a certain reference for the popularization and use of this edition of textbooks. |
