The Tang Dynasty is a prosperous period for the development of tomb murals in China.According to archaeological date,the mural themes in Tang tombs are extremely rich,involving characters,landscapes,flowers and birds,and various other animal and plant themes.Although these tombs mural are not recorded in the works on painting,they shows the basic features of Tang Dynasty painting style to some extent.Most studies suggest that the Tang Dynasty is an important period of transition from painting "flower" and "birds" to painting of flowers and birds,during this period,the word "flower and bird" begin to appear in the works about painting,and there are special flower and bird painters,unfortunately,none of them had any works handed down,which made certain difficulties in the study of flower-and-bird painting in the Tang Dynasty.As more and more mural tombs of the Tang Dynasty are unearthed in recent years,the images of flowers and birds in the tomb have become the material to explore the painting style of flower-and-bird painting in the Tang Dynasty and the painting style of Tang Dynasty flowers and birds painters recorded in the literature.The expression and development of the theme of flowers and birds in the murals of Tang tombs are historic,on the one hand,the reflect the painting thought and aesthetic atmosphere at that time,on the other hand,it also reflects the evolution process of gradual development and maturity of early flower-and-bird painting.The article is devised into four chapters by collecting and arranging the image of murals of flowers and birds of various periods in Tang tombs,as well as consulting the records of flower-and-bird painting in the literature.The first chapter mainly describes the image of flowers and birds in the murals of the Tang tombs into three periods:the early Tang,the prosperous Tang,and the middle and late Tang according to the evolution of the theme and artistic style,According to the artistic characteristic of each period the evolution process of the painting with the theme of flowers and birds in the Tang tombs can be sorted out.the second chapter divides the changes of the image of flowers and birds in Tang tombs in the aspects of theme,aesthetic taste,technique and form of expression,and explores the causes of the changes,mainly from religious belief,social culture and artistic value of the murals of flowers and birds in Tang tombs.The third chapter discusses according to the stage evolution and characteristic analysis of the image of flowers and birds in the tomb murals of the Tang Dynasty,it discusses the painting style of the flower-and-bird painting of Tang Dynasty reflected in the image of flowers and birds in the tomb and the painting style of Xue Ji,Bian Luan and other flower and bird painters.The four chapter mainly discusses the time characteristics of several special composition styles of flower-and-bird paintings in Tang Dynasty reflected from Tang Dynasty tomb murals,as well as the sprouting of the “Mogu”painting、“Enjoyable flower-and-bird”painting and “Yeyi”painting style of Wu Dai in Tang Dynasty tomb after Tang Dynasty.This paper through a comprehensive and systematic analysis of the image of flowers and birds in the tomb murals of the Tang Dynasty,this paper try to explore the contemporary significance of the development of the image of flowers and birds theme in the tomb murals of the Tang Dynasty,So as to understand more intuitively the status of overall artistic style of flower-and-bird painting and the flower-and-bird painters of Tang Dynasty in the development history of flower-and-bird painting.
