Caryl Churchill is the most influential playwright in contemporary British drama.She has made important contributions to the development of the feminist drama around the world.As a highly socially responsible drama creator,she pays close attention to the contradictory relationship between man and nature,writes about the misfortunes and struggles of women in different times and situations,and organically links the changes of nature with the fate of women.She constantly fight for the ideal of reconciliation between the sexes and the unity of man and nature.This paper mainly use the critical method of social ecofeminism to analyze Caryl Churchill’s works.The main contents of the paper include the interpretation of the theme,the analysis of several typical female images in the work,and the summary of Caryl Churchill’s ecofeminist consciousness.The full text is divided into five parts.The introduction briefly introduces the author,the current research status at home and abroad,then expounds the theory of ecofeminism and the research value of paper.The first part of the main body starts with the theme of survival in the work,shows the dilemma between woman and nature in the patriarchal capitalist society,reveals the hierarchical oppression and exploitation for women and nature,and discusses their similar tragic fate from the perspective of the tragedy of survival.Both of them suffer from physical torture and spiritual alienation.The second part focuses on the split images of women.From the perspective of alienation,demonized women and instrumentalized women frequently appeared in the works are analyzed.It points out that the relationship between man and nature is breaking because of western industrial system which has been penetrating masculine values.At the same time,it is analyzed female images of the nurturer and the contestant,showing the loss and return of the identity of female subject.The third part mainly explores Caryl Churchill’s ecofeminist consciousness.It is embodied in the ethical care of women from the perspective of gender politicization,and persists in constructing the subject of female discourse in creative practice.The concluding part summarizes the content of the full text,reveals the holistic concept of development conveyed by Caryl Churchill from works,and explores the significance of harmonious symbiosis between man and nature.
