A Report On An Interpreting Project For Shandong Linyi Tuna Machinery Co.,Ltd.

This report is based on a business negotiation in which the author takes charge of interpreting for Shandong Linyi Tuna Machinery Co.,Ltd.and Russia Mobil K Co.,Ltd.in December 2019.Business negotiation is one kind of professional business meetings,which tends to use many terms and formulaic expressions.It is common that much economic and cultural background knowledge of different countries is involved in business negotiations.The report discusses several features of interpreting in professional fields like business negotiation,and analyzes the role of four types of schemata in interpreting from the perspective of schema theory.This report consists of six chapters.Chapter One introduces the background,significance and structure of the report.Chapter Two is task description,which presents the background information of the project,difficulties and challenges in the process and corresponding preparations made before the task.Chapter Three expounds schema theory and its application to interpreting.Chapter Four is case analysis,which elaborates how the theory can be applied to improve interpreting performance through typical cases in interpreting.Chapter Five lists the feedback and evaluation from the clients,and the author’s reflections on the practice.Chapter Six is the conclusion of the report,namely,schema theory plays an important role in interpreting activities;interpreters should unswervingly keep their learning capability,accumulating as rich knowledge schemata as possible,and consciously activate relevant schemata stored in their brains when receiving new information.It is hoped that the report can provide conducive reference for other interpreters’practice through the analysis of difficulties in interpreting on professional business negotiation and the guiding role of schema theory in the process,so that they can make targeted preparations,improve their interpreting performances and successfully complete interpreting tasks.
