A Research On Xijing Liushou Of The Liao Dynasty

After the establishment of the Liao Dynasty,Shangjing,Dongjing,Nanjing,Zhongjing and Xijing were set up,and Liushou was installed in each capital.In the Liao Dynasty,Liushou was the highest local administrative and military chief.The Liao Dynasty set up Xijing and Xijing Liushou twice in Taizong and Xingzong period.After Emperor Taizong of Liao conquered the Houjin Dynasty,Luoyang was taken as Xijing and designated Xijing Liushou,while Liao Xingzong took Datong as Xijing and also installed Xijing Liushou after the war with Xixia.Although the establishment of Xijing Luoyang in the Liao Dynasty was soon abandoned,the designation of Xijing Liushou was continued.Therefore,Xijing Luoyang Liushou had certain symbolic significance,which showed that the dominators of the Liao Dynasty were enterprises about the Central Plains.Xijing Datong Liushou was continued with the extinction of the Liao Dynasty,it played an important role in stabilizing the southwest frontier of the Liao Dynasty,consolidating the rule of the Liao Dynasty and promoting the economic and social development of Xijing Datong area.This paper is divided into introduction,four chapters and conclusion.The introduction part recommends the meaning of Liushou,the present situation of Xijing Liushou research,the sty ideas and methods,and innovations and difficulties,which lays the foundation for the full text research.The first chapter introduces the general situation of Xijing and Xijing Liushou’sconstruction and Xijing Liushou’sfunction.The Liao Dynasty set up Xijing Luoyang and Xijing Datong in Taizong and Xingzong periods respectively,and both installed Liushou.In the Liao Dynasty,Xijing Luoyang Liushou gradually evolved into a virtual duty,while Xijing Datong Liushou had the power to choose served officers,appease the people and calm the riots.In the second chapter,the author textual researchs and discriminates officers of two Xijing Liushou,and is based with them to analyze the origin and tenure of Xijing Liushou.Xijing Liushou of the Liao Dynasty has a distinct ethnic characteristic,mostly by the Qidan family members.Xijing Datong Liushou of the Liao Dynasty is more frequent replacement on the whole.The third chapter discusses the main part of offical experience of Xijing Liushou of the Liao Dynasty,which consist of the ways of entering official career,the former official and the departure.Xijing Liushou of the Liao Dynasty more throughed pedigree and generation selected to enter official career,more elected senior officials.Its departure is more promotion and flat manoeuvre,indicating that there are good results in the post.The fourth chapter discusses the characteristics of Xijing Liushou of the Liao Dynasty and evaluates this group.The setting situation and purpose of Xijing Liushou stay are different from those of other Liushou of the Liao Dynasty.In the Liao Dynasty,Xijing Liushou’s appointment pay attention to origin,talent,and must be official qualifications or meritorious service.The Liao Dynasty set up Xijing Luoyang to scheme the Central Plains,and set up Xijing Datong to defend foreign enemies and stabilize dominion,and promote local development.The conclusion part clarifies the basic situation of Xijing Liushou of the Liao Dynasty and plays an important role in the local area.The central government of th Liao Dynasty also firmly controlled the selection of Xijing Liushou.
