Research On Two Publications Of Kang Youwei’s The Republican Review

Kang Youwei is a politician and thinker,spanning the two eras of feudal monarchy and the early Republic of China.He led the Reform Movement of 1898,established the "Royal Association" overseas,organized and participated in the Restoration of Dingsi.Kang Youwei’s active performance in political activities gave him a great influence in society at that time.One of the main characteristics of Kang Youwei’s thought is "reserve the royalty",but we cannot totally deny his thoughts according to the fact that he always associated national salvation with the monarch."Republic and Peace Discussion" is a concentrated expression of Kang Youwei’s thoughts in his later years.The article was published in 1917 during the Ding Si restoration period.The purpose of the "Republic and Peace Discussion" is to provide ideological guidance for the restoration movement,to establish a republic with a false monarchy,and to make the country prosperous and strong.In 1932,the Kwantung Army of Japan passed the "Minbao"(formerly known as the "Minbao of the Three Eastern Provinces")and published the "Republic and Peace Discuss".Their purpose of this publication is to provide an ideological basis for the establishment of the "pseudo-Manchukuo".Aiming at the two publications of the "Republic and Peace Discussion ",this article separately studies its different social and historical backgrounds and publication profiles.In different historical periods and social and historical backgrounds,"Republic and Peace Discussion" was published twice,and its historical significance is worth studying.This article is mainly divided into five main parts.The first part mainly focuses on the research of the first publication of "Republic and Peace Discussion".The content mainly involves the social and historical background and general situation of the first publication,as well as the response from all communities of the society after the publication.In the context of Yuan Shikai’s failure to proclaim the emperor and the Beiyang Group’s internal struggle for power,restoration thoughts were once again rampant,and Kang Youwei,Zhang Xun and others launched a restoration movement.Kang Youwei published "Republic and Peace Discussion" in the "Intolerance" magazine as the ideological guide for restoration.The publication of "Republic and Peace Discussion" has a strong political color,which plays an important role in our study of the relationship between Kang Youwei’s thought and politics in his later years.In the second part,our research is conducted on the re-publishing of the "Republic and Peace Discussion".Judging by the social background and public profile and the response from all walks of life,after the "September 18 Incident" broke out,Japan established the "Puppet Manchukuo" in order to strengthen its rule in the Northeast.The "Common Peace Conference" was republished for the purpose of "consolidating" the rule of the pseudo-regime.The re-publishing of "Republic and Peace Discussion" in different historical periods plays an important role in our research of the historical significance of the "Republic and Peace Discussion".The third part is about the reason why Kang Youwei’s thoughts were used by Japan.Among them,Kang Youwei’s thoughts are deeply influenced by traditional imperial power,with a certain restorative nature,and his thoughts had a certain influence in society.In order to maintain social stability after the establishment of the "pseudo-Manchukuo" to a certain extent,the Kwantung Army of Japan needed to use Puyi as a puppet to establish a nominal republican state with a virtual monarchy.With the help of the research on the reasons for the re-publishing of "Republic and Peace Discussion",we can deepen our understanding of the relationship between celebrity speech and social politics.The fourth part analyzes the two published evaluations of the "Republic and Peace Discussion".There are differences between the two publications of the "Republic and Peace Discussion",and their social impacts are also different."Republic and Peace Discussion" is the representative of Kang Youwei’s thoughts in his later years,and also one of the ideological representatives of modern Chinese intellectuals in exploring the road of salvation and survival.The different social influences brought about by its two publications in different periods provide us with an important reference for the study of the interaction between celebrity speech and social politics.The fifth part which is also the concluding part,refines the summary of the previous article,and deeply explores the interactive relationship between celebrities’ speech and their thoughts and social politics.
