Research On The Comeuppance Story In Yi Jian Zhi

Yi Jian Zhi is an important representative of the note to record something weird in Song Dynasty.It took Hong Mai almost 60 years to complete,which covers a wide range from ghosts and gods,peculiar and different people,marriage and love,to medical prescriptions,imperial examinations and so on.As Yi Jian Jia Zhi came out,it was widely circulated among the people and deeply loved by them.The comeuppance story accounts for about one third of the existing stories in Yi Jian Zhi in length,which is of great value for understanding the society of Song Dynasty,especially for Southern Song Dynasty.Since the 1980s,the research on comeuppance story in Yi Jian Zhi has not been carried out much and not enough,so the research on comeuppance story in Yi Jian Zhi should be more in-depth.In this paper,nearly 650 karma stories are selected as the research object,and the types,characteristics,folk thoughts and narrative features of comeuppance story in Song Dynasty are discussed.This paper mainly includes the following contents:The first part is the introduction.This part briefly reviews the research on the retribution stories of Yi Jian Zhi since the last century.It mainly focuses on the classification,region and narrative research,which points out the necessity of special research on the story of Yi Jian Zhi.The second part discusses the origin of comeuppance story in Yi Jian Zhi from two perspectives,history and the author.On the one hand,the traditional concept of retribution in the ancient China has been influenced by the Buddhist thought,resulting in a series of retribution novels;on the other hand,Hong Mai’s own concept of novels,strong curiosity and social atmosphere of novels as an important way of entertainment have also promoted the story of comeuppance story in Yi Jian Zhi.The third part focuses on the analysis of several typical comeuppance story on the basis of colletcing all comeuppance story.The typical comeuppance stories include the stories of loyalty and filial piety,reverence of gods,honesty and integrity,as well as the stories of unfiliality,killing,preference for breaking a contract,and non-dedication.The number of stories of evil newspaper in Yi Jian Zhi is far more than that of good retribution,because the stories of evil newspaper have higher deterrent power.The fourth part regards the comeuppance story as a starting point and explores the folk thoughts embodied in the story of karma in Yi Jian Zhi.On the basis of more than 600 stories of comeuppance story,from the perspective of the public,this paper summarizes the public’s secular cognition of Buddhism,the concept of retribution with tit for tooth and the harmful folk thoughts of indulgence,and tries to analyze the causes of these thoughts.The fifth part discusses the narrative characteristics of comeuppance story in Yi Jian Zhi.First of all,from the perspective of the story structure of karma,this paper sums up two story structure modes:"victims suffer misfortune-seek revenge from ghosts and gods-perpetrators receive retribution" and "those who are good suffer misfortune-ghosts and gods help-disasters subside".Secondly,it analyzes the function of reincarnation of three worlds from the narrative and aesthetic level.Finally,this paper analyzes several most widely used narrative techniques in comeuppance story in Yi Jian Zhi.
