Since the growing ties among different countries, interpretation activities have become more and more important. Thus, many language experts are devoted to interpreting research and study.Daniel Gile,an interpreting expert and also an emeritus professor from Universite Paris 3 Sorbonne Nouvelle put forward Gile’s Effort Model. In his Effort model,Gile allocates consecutive interpreting into two phases-Comprehension Phase and Reformulation Phase, which plays a guiding role in current interpreting practices.Based on the consecutive interpreting practices in the internal meetings and workshops of IBM CSC37 sub-team 5 with its client of a social work service center, the author of the report is to analyze factors affecting her effort distribution while interpreting under the guidance of Gile’s Effort Model and aims to find out strategies to coordinate different efforts in future interpreting tasks. In this report, the author firstly describes the background of the task and introduces the interpreting process. In the second part, the author explains the theoretical basis of the report—Effort Model. In the third part, the author analyzes those factors affecting her effort distribution during interpreting under the two different phases of interpretation according to Gile’s Effort Model. In the fourth part, the author of the report comes up with proper strategies to cope with these factors, which include accumulation of linguistic and extra-linguistic knowledge, consolidation of interpretation preparation and improvement of intercultural-awareness.Besides,interpreters could also take a good advantage of interpreting tactics during interpreting to optimize effort distribution. The last part is a conclusion. The author hopes that the analysis of Gile’s Effort Model in this report could not only provide reference for interpretation learners but also play a positive role in their further interpretation.
