The Representation And Exploration Of Symbolic Image In Graffiti Painting

The word "symbol"was first put forward by Hippocrates,the "father of medicine" in ancient Greece,but the actual meaning of the sign was even earlier than the word "symbol".In terms of scope of painting,dating back to the original grotto murals in the period of the human,the bloom of South Africa,caves discovered by far the most ancient painting,primitive humans use concise simple line portrait on the wall and its special meaning,grotto murals in the animal images have not just the pure animal,but a symbolic image of the original human spiritual.At the end of the 19th century,the objective-oriented figurative art guided by rational thinking declined,and various artistic schools with rebellious questioning spirit to express subjective feelings emerged one after another.The concept of expressing subjective emotions guided by perceptual thinking is constantly emerging.Artists are eager to break through the shackles of tradition,explore the ontological expression of artistic language forms,and seek diversified expression ways and personalized language symbols in order to better express the meaning they want to convey.The emergence of expressionism has greatly promoted the process of individuation,and its pursuit of ontological individuation of artistic language is very typical.Since the 1970s,there have been numerous and distinctive schools of postmodern art.At the beginning of its birth,graffiti art is mainly the expression of the graffiti artists’ resistance against the government and social injustice.As one of the post-modern art schools,the characteristics of uncertainty,popularity and pluralism also have their own unique charm.It has outstanding significance in the expression of artistic subjective spirit and the development and exploration of symbolic images,leading the trend of artistic language in the post-modern period.In the era of images,picture reading has become an essential part of People’s Daily life,and images have undoubtedly become an important carrier of information exchange and dissemination.The symbolic meaning of symbolic image itself has become a bright spot to distinguish various images in the information explosion period.This paper analyzes the linguistic expression forms of symbolic images in graffiti works,explores the expression forms and styles of symbolic images,and summarizes the significance and value of the existence of Chinese and western graffiti art.The first part of this paper is a conceptual explanation,which clearly defines the basic concepts of the object of study,the concept of symbolic images,and the etymology of "graffiti".The second part is about the historical origin of graffiti painting and symbolic images and the different forms of symbolic images in graffiti works.The third part chooses Chinese graffiti artists with distinctive characteristics to analyze the symbolic images and their unique meanings in their representative works.The fourth part is to analyze the influence of symbolic images in graffiti art on my own creation.
