A Report On The Translation Of Part Ⅲ(Excerpt)of Nation,Language And The Ethics Of Translation

This is a translation report based on the translation practice of Nation,Language and the Ethics of Translation.This translation project is completed by teamwork.The editors-in chief of the source text are Sandra Bermann and Michael Wood,who are professors of comparative literature at Princeton University in the United States.In 2005,Nation,Language and the Ethics of Translation was published by Princeton University Press.The book consists of 22 papers,which are divided into four parts: “Translation as Medium and across Media”,“the Ethics of Translation”,“Translation and Difference”,and “Beyond the Nation”,which interpret and describe translation from different angels.This translation project is a teamwork,in which each member is assigned one or two parts to translate.The translator translates the first essay of the Part III,a total of 23,000 words.The author of the source text,Lawrence Venuti,explores the role of translation in the construction of national identity by analyzing the nationalist literature and historical events in Italy,Catalonia and China.Under the guidance of Vermeer’s Skopos Theory,the translator analyzes the difficult and key points of the translation from the aspects of Skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule to convey the authenticity,accuracy,communication and standardization of the original text,and the translator also summarizes the skills during the translation process,which are expected to help translators in their translation practice in the future.
