Abstract/Summary:
Reading English picture books after class is an important way for pupils to develop their English ability.In recent years,with the introduction of English picture books,the content and form of primary school students’ English picture books are increasingly rich.This paper selects a W student who has been reading English picture books after class for a long time as the research object.Through interview,observation,discourse analysis and other methods,it attempts to present the real situation of extracurricular reading of English picture books of primary school student,so as to provide reference for optimizing and improving the extracurricular reading of English picture books of primary school students.In terms of reading motivation,W student has experienced the transformation from parents’ pressure to happy reading.At first,W student’s extracurricular reading of English picture books is mainly carried out at the request of her parents.With the passage of time,W student has gradually become interested in extracurricular reading of English picture books.Her reading experience has been accumulating and her reading habits have been gradually developed.In reading content,W student has experienced the transition from Story picture books to Life Encyclopedia picture books.In the lower grade,W student likes Story books very much.This kind of picture book has vivid plot,which is helpful to stimulate her reading interest and promote her imagination.With the growth of age and the improvement of English reading level,in the middle and senior grades,Life Encyclopedia picture books become the favorite type of W student.This kind of picture book is rich in subject matter and large in information,which is helpful to open up her horizons.In terms of reading methods,W student has experienced the transformation from paper reading to electronic reading.There are three ways for W student to read English picture books after class: paper reading,electronic reading and audio reading.Paper reading is the most traditional way of reading,and it is also the main way that W student takes at the beginning of reading.By the middle of reading,W student began to contact and gradually accept the way of electronic reading.Among them,the electronic pen has become a medium to communicate paper reading and electronic reading.Because of the advantages of audio-visual combination and creation of context,electronic pen stimulates W student’s interest in reading.In terms of reading effect,W student not only develop the habit of reading English picture books regularly,but also improve her English reading interest and reading ability.However,W student is weak in willpower when she is reading picture books after class.Finally,in order to further promote the extracurricular reading of English picture books for primary school students,parents of students should strive to create a good reading environment for English picture books,so that students can enhance their interest in reading.The Picture book press should strengthen the research and development work,so that students enhance the identification ability in the choice.Teachers should play a leading role in promoting students to adopt a variety of reading methods,so that students can develop in an all-round way in the audio-visual integration.
