English listening plays a very important role in language communication,and listening learning is an essential part of English learning.The traditional listening teaching mode is still applied in most English listening classes in senior high school.This kind of teaching method cannot provide students with real language situations.The students accept the listening learning and the language knowledge from the real context passively.The traditional teaching methods cannot play the role of listening effectively in communication.Therefore,it is necessary to apply modern teaching methods to English listening teaching.Situational teaching method can make students learn in the created situations which show the authenticity and practicability of English language.In the situation related to students’ life,students are more likely to construct the link of new knowledge and existing knowledge,so as to achieve the purpose of improving students’ English listening level.The purpose of this thesis is to study the specific effects of situational teaching method on students’ listening learning in senior high school and build an effective listening class based on situational teaching method.This thesis presents two research questions:(1)What influences does situational teaching method have on students’ English listening learning in senior high school?(2)How can situational teaching method be effectively applied to English listening teaching in senior high school?This paper takes literature research and experimental research.Based on the constructivism theory,the author conducted a three-month teaching experiment on 118 students from two classes of Bijie NO.4 Senior School.Among them,Class 12 with 58 students is the control class(CC)and Class 13 with 60 students is the experimental class(EC).The two classes are divided according to the class examination and there is no obvious difference between the results.In the process of teaching experiment,the control class adopts the traditional listening teaching method,which is playing the listening materials to students for practice,and then correcting the answers for students.In the meantime,the experimental class adopts situational teaching method in listening.The author designs situational activities according to the content of the teaching materials or the related topics and contents of the listening materials,and creates listening learning situations for the students,which enables the students to learn listening and practice listening in the situations.In addition,pretest and post-test,questionnaires and interviews are conducted to obtain more dataThe experimental results show that on the one hand,situational teaching method has positive impact on students’ English listening learning.The specific impacts are as follows.(1)Students’ interest and attitude are changed positively;(2)Students make a progress in their listening performance and listening level;(3)Situational teaching method enables students to actively use compensation strategy and social strategy.On the other hand,teachers need to pay attention to the following points on how to apply situational teaching method to English listening teaching in senior high school.(1)In the pre-listening stage,teacher should design activities to create real situations to stimulate students’ learning;(2)In the while-listening stage,teachers can use the role effect to promote the development of the situation and create cooperative situations;(3)In the post-listening stage,teachers should design activities combined with ability training to create practical situations.
