In the poems of Pre Qin Period,the Book of Songs and Chu Ci are known as a kind of origin which can be collected into a volume,among them,there are a wide variety of colorful flower images that attract people’s attention.As ornamental plants,flowers have been favored by poets since BC,which are always closely related to people’s life.Flowers entering poetry implies the relationship between human and nature.Comparing flowers to someone and even using the specific ones as personal labels also embodies the special temperament of Chinese culture.This paper tidied the classification of most representative flower images in the Book of Songs and Chu Ci,and explores how the poet uses the techniques to make the flower images entering the poems with the analysis of specific paragraphs,for example,in some poems of the Book of Songs,different flower images are compared to a gentleman’s virtue,or a magnificent magical world is created with a group of flower images in Chu Ci;Taking time as a clue,what changes have taken place in the connotation of the same flower images in different time and space;Combined with the Pre-Qin history and social etiquette and customs,this paper explores how these typical flower images reveal the intention and attitude of the poets,what kind of ambition and emotion they express as well as what roles the images play in the construct of Chinese culture.In the chapter of Chu Ci,the paper introduces the regional characteristics of "Jing-chu" culture and the influence of Sorcery and Nuo culture on flower images.The third chapter elaborates the cultural connotation of flower images in Pre Qin period,including the extension of philosophy and the thinking of feminism.
