Chinese classical poetry has always been viewed as an important representative of Chinese culture with its brilliant long history, and the English translation of Tang poetry plays a key role in communicating across cultures. It is pretty clear that there are apparent differences between Chinese and western cultures, which has become a challenging job to translate Tang poetry into English to better highlight the characteristics of Chinese culture and show the profound cultural background of China.Different translators will reproduce diverse translated versions based on their own understanding and cultural background.However,poetry-translation is not only the process of language conversion, but also the integration between cultures. Therefore,if culture differences is unable to be fully conveyed by the literary scholars, their translation will be in vain.Whereas, the essence of Chinese classical poetry lies in its imagery. To the literary scholars,Ezra Pound has highlighted the imagism in Chinese classical poetry with his own techniques to take, breaking the rigid situation of language and culture to some extent and better transfer the spirit and emotion of Chinese poetry,While the author believes that Pound has undoubtedly re-created a lot of bright new skills and probabilities for opening up a greater space for further exploration.Unfortunately,we can never say that Pound has properly conveyed the charm and spirit of Chinese classical poetry in his translation. The imagery of Chinese classical poetry put more emphasis on “virtuality ”,namely the the imagination, dream and emotion in people’s subjective consciousness, which are acquired through the poet’s own imagination, while Pound focuses on the "concreteness".Thus we can see that Pound’s translation has only reflected the actual side of Chinese classical imagery but the profound and elusive internal which is the core spirit of Chinese poetics has never been fully represented in English version through Pound’s imagist poetry translation. Finally, this paper makes an in-depth analysis of the origins and results of translation understanding and re-creation from the perspective of comparative literature. So the English translation portfolio both from Xu Yuanchong and Ezra Pound’s Cathay will be excerpted as a case study, aiming to analyze on "virtuality" and "concreteness" imagery on the basis of organizing the translating strategies from Xu Yuanchong and Pound adopted in their works. Then, this paper is determined to further explore the specific imagery transformation between "virtuality" and "concreteness" on the basis of the conversion between imagery principles. Thus, the principles and strategies that the translators put in the poetry re-creation can be best understood, showing the representational meaning of the specific charm of imagery.Based on this, this paper takes the two famous scholars,Xu Yuanchong and Ezra Pound as cases to study and explore the re-creation of virtuality and honesty translation of Tang poetry from the perspective of imagery. This paper has five parts. The first part is mainly about the introduction; The second part shows the principles and characteristics of recreation of translation on “concreteness”;The third part principally demonstrates the connotation of recreation of translation on “virtuality”;The fourth part shows the comprehensive thinking of Chinese poetry translation studies on medio-translatology;And the fifth part is the summary.
