This report is based on the translation of source text which is a judgment(NEW PRIME INC.v.OLIVEIRA)that is made by the Supreme Court of the United States on a civil case occurring in 2018.This judgment is divided into three parts:Syllabus,Opinion of the Court and Concurring Opinion. As a highly professional text with solemnness and fairness,English legal texts mostly use attributive clauses and sentences of passive voice to reflect the objectivity of the text. Therefore,it is of great significance to master the translation techniques of these two types of sentences in translation and study of law.Based on the analysis of these two types of sentences, the author selects typical examples in the source text and presents several translation techniques for two types of sentences. The author mainly uses the three techniques like fronting,post-loading and splitting to translate the attributive clause. As for the passive voice, the author translates it into three kinds of sentences: active sentence, passive sentence and non-subjective sentence.Through summarizing the characteristics and translation techniques of these sentences, the author hopes to provide reference for those who are engaged in legal translation and study. At the same time, the author hopes to be able to provide a readable material for domestic readers who study the American judgment.
