In order to further promote cultural exchange and intangible culture heritage knowledge sharing between China and Africa,Yunnan University held China-Africa Seminar on the Protection & Inheritance of Intangible Cultural Heritage on October27,2018,on the issues and practices related to the protection and inheritance of intangible heritage that both sides faced with and concerned about.In order to explore the guiding role of the Cooperative Principle in interpretation activities,the author of this interpreting report decided to perform this interpretation activity after consulting with her supervisor.This practice report is based on the author’s simulated consecutive interpreting of China-Africa Seminar on the Protection & Inheritance of Intangible Cultural Heritage.This paper mainly analyzes the author’s performance in the simulated interpreting activity from the perspective of the Cooperative Principle and uses it as guidance for future interpretation and researches.This report consists of five parts: interpretation task description,interpretation process description,theoretical framework of the Cooperative Principle,case analysis and summary.Based on the Cooperative Principle,this paper analyzes the problems encountered in the process of interpretation and tries to summarize the feasible interpretation strategies.The first part provides a brief introduction to the background,task sources,characteristics,goals,and significance of the simulated interpreting activity.The second part reviews the practice from task preparation,interpretation,and post-task assessment,and describes the fundamental task preparations in the interpretation process in detail.The third part is the theoretical framework.It introduces the Cooperative Principle and its application in the field of interpretation.In the fourth part,under the guidance of the Cooperative Principle,the case study of difficulties encountered in the simulated interpretation is conducted.Five coping strategies are proposed,namely literal translation,addition,simplification and deletion,borrowing,paraphrasing and free translation.The fifth part presents the author’s summary of the main difficulties in interpreting practice,her experience in interpreting practice,and making suggestions for future interpreting practice.It is hoped that this interpretation practice report can provide reference for future English-Chinese consecutive interpretation in the field of protection and inheritance of intangible culture heritage.
