Just as there are universally valid truths at the sphere of knowledge, can there be such truths at the sphere of moral? If so,what are the principles that establish moral truth? Ethical relativism flatly denies this.In contrast, most philosophers still affirm the existence of such moral truths, although the paths by which they set their principles differ. In modern philosophy,Brentano’s philosophical efforts on this issue are of great value both to philosophy itself and to the practice of rebuilding the contemporary moral principle.Based on the textual research of Brentano’s ethics works, this paper investigates Brentano’s philosophical approach to the establishment of "correct and universally valid moral truth",that is,his process of cognition based on the moral truth of his descriptive psychology.Emotion, especially self-evident emotion, plays a key role in it.The first chapter reviews Brentano’s attempts to explore the two paths of moral truth by the philosophers before him.The second chapter examines the philosophical foundation of Brentano’s own philosophical construction path. That is to discuss the relationship between his descriptive psychology, epistemology, metaphysics and ethics. The third chapter focuses on the role of emotion in the discovery of the principle of ethical knowledge and kindness.Chapter four discusses how emotion and will contribute to the realization of the highest practical good. The article concludes that Brentano’s exploration of the unique role of emotion in moral cognition and consciousness requires us to treat it not only as a pioneer of phenomenology, but also as a path to moral truth that deserves our great attention.
