The Lord Guan Yu is a cultural symbol widely recognized by the Chinese nation. The translation of his biography is conducive to showing the Chinese spirit, establishing the Chinese cultural image and enhancing its influence.Under this background,it is of great significance to carry out the translation project of I Met Lord Guan Yu.The source text is selected from the third chapter and the epilogue of Lu Shuming’s autobiography I Met Lord Guan. Most of them are objective descriptions of Mr.Lu’s acting and social experience with informative characteristics. There are also many poems and lyrics in the source text, which bring some difficulties to the translation. To better handle the difficulties,Peter Newmark’s Text Typology theory and the case study methods are chosen to guide the translation. The semantic translation method is mainly adopted for the expressive text, supplemented by amplification and other methods. And communicative translation is the main method for informative and vocative texts, supplemented by annotation and conversion. The translator chose to keep the cultural characteristics of the source text and meet the expectations of target readers, and further promote the communication of the culture of Lord Guan Yu.From the perspective of text typology theory, with the distinct biographical style, the project of I Met Lord Guan Yu effectively presents the characteristics of the culture of Lord Guan Yu,which is conducive to realizing the spread of the culture of Lord Guan Yu and promoting the cultural exchange. The translator also summarizes the shortcomings of the project, hoping to provide some references for the translation of the biographical text and communication of the culture of Lord Guan Yu.
