The research of female social status has always been an important field of gender research.In 794 AD,Japan started Heian Period.In 960 AD,China began Song Dynasty.The 10-12 century was not only an important period of for Japan and China,but also a prosperous period for the development of female literature.Murasaki Shikibu and Li Qingzhao were the most famous female writers in their countries.The article takes Murasaki Shikibu and Li Qingzhao as the research objects,discusses the similarities and differences of female culture between the two countries,and compares the status of noble women in Japan and China.The first part is an introduction about female studies of the 10-12 century,Murasaki Shikibu’s studies and Li Qingzhao’s studies.The second part is the political and social systems of Japan and China in the 10-12 century.Japan was dominated by aristocracy,and women became victims of politics.Manorial system promoted the development of female literature.Marriage developed into patrilineal society,led by father.China ruled by Jinshi,and women had some political power influenced by harem politics.Regardless of family background,the marriage of Song Dynasty took care of talents and virtues.The third part is the rights of aristocratic women in Japan and China in the 10-12 century.Women in Japan and China had received good family education,but their wishes were ignored in the marriage.Japanese women had the ownership and dominance of dowry,while Chinese women only had dominance.The fourth part is the awakening of Japanese and Chinese aristocratic female consciousness in the 10-12 century.Murasaki Shikibu believed that women should have beauty and virtue.She was pessimistic about marriage.And her views of politics only existed between husband and wife.Li Qingzhao paid more attention to the beauty of the soul.She had the courage to pursue love and express her political opinions.The fifth part is theconclusion,compare the status of noble women in China and Japan.
