Sun Zhongtian is a representative of the second generation of scholars in modern Chinese literature.Since the 1950 s,he has been devoted to the research of modern literature,including Mao Dun research,Lu Xun research,literature research about the Northeast occupied area,literature research on color,and literary history compilation.He has been achieved outstanding academic contribution in these fields.At present,his academic research needs to be explored.In this thesis,through reading his works and comparing him with other modern literature researchers,the author places him in the modern literature academic history to comment on his modern literature research.Meanwhile,through the case study of him,the author discusses the changes that have occurred in the social,historical,and cultural processes of modern literary research over the past few decades.The main body of the thesis is divided into five parts.The introduction part: The author clarifies the proposition,the research significance,the research status,the innovation and the research method.In the research status section,the research framework of the thesis is explained,in which Prof.Sun’s academic research is divided into three dimensions: writer theory,literary phenomenon research and literary history construction.The three dimensions are closely connected and progressive,constituting his academic research world from point to face.The first part: "Sun Zhongtian’s Academic History".This section briefly introduces his life in the order of historical development."Youth with a dream: Dive into the academic in the complicated times(1928-1950)" describes his boyhood;"Responding to the call: A hundred years of work is waiting to be carried out(1950-1980)" describes his academic work experience before the 1980s;"Inclusion: Integration of Chinese and Western in Academic Transformation(1980-2000)" narrates of his academic experience from the 1980 s to the new century;"Multiple Integration: Interdisciplinary opening new academic achievements(2000-2015)" accounts his work and life in his old ages.The second,third,and fourth parts are the focus of this thesis.The construction of Prof.Sun’s literary research framework is completed from three perspectives: the point,the face,and the body.In the second part,"The writer’s theory: The basis of Sun Zhongtian’s literary research".This part firstly summarizes the concept,connotation and significance of the writer theory,and then discusses the writer theory of him,and believes that writer theory is the basis of his research.Among them,Mao Dun’s research is the core of Sun’s writer theory,which has gone through the process of transforming from revolutionary ideology to historical and aesthetic perspective;Lu Xun’s research is an important dimension to contrast with Sun’s Mao Dun’s research.Before the 1980 s,Sun’s research on Lu Xun was very different from his research on Mao Dun,where the former focused on aesthetic evaluation and the latter on revolutionary ideology.After the 1980 s,the research methods of them became similar,which reflected the influence of the social background of the times on literary research from the side.This part also discusses Prof.Sun’s research on writers such as Shen Congwen,Dai Wangshu,Mu Mutian,and finally summarizes the paradigm shift of his writer theory from revolutionary ideology to aesthetic interpretation.The third part,"Research on literary phenomena: The ’face’ of Sun Zhongtian’s literary research",discusses his research of literary about the northeast occupied area and his poetry color research.His research of literary about the northeast occupied area exemplifies the academic returning tendency of the experienced person.He is the leader and pioneer of the research of literary about the northeast occupied area;His poetic research in color reflects his strong academic personality.Looking back at literature from the perspective of chromatology,the essence still falls on the aesthetic characteristics of literature.The fourth part,"Construction of literary history: Sun Zhongtian’s unique view of literary history",discusses Prof.Sun’s literary history writing and views.Subject to various factors,the four sets of literary history that he participated in has not escaped the influence of the revolutionary ideology,which has a certain distance from his ideal "history of the soul".However,from the perspective of his overall literary research,he holds a literary history view that explores the value of literature from the perspective of the writer’s psychology in a pluralistic and complementary literature world.In addition,his research style is biased towards rationality.His literary value includes not only aesthetic value,but also multiple values such as politics,history,and culture.The fifth part,"Sun Zhongtian’s academic contribution",summarizes his academic contribution in the three aspects: discipline construction,historical data research,and academic methods.The conclusion of the thesis reviews his personality and commonality in academic research in comparison with other scholars,and summarizes his general robust style of literary research.The appendix of the thesis lists his life and creative events,the doctoral students under the guidance of him,and a brief introduction to the academic situation of them.
