As one of the important aspects of English output,English writing is an important carrier to reflect learners’ English level.Therefore,English writing ability has become an arduous task in the teaching and learning of junior middle school English Curriculum in China.In recent years,many scholars have paid close attention to the relationship between field cognitive style and second language learning,and they have made remarkable achievements in oral English,listening,reading and writing studies.Their studies show that there is a clear correlation between field-independent and field-dependent cognitive styles and English learning.Drawing much upon the previous academic achievements,this paper focuses on the following three questions: 1.what are the characteristics of field dependent and field independence students in language accuracy,fluency and complexity? 2.What is the relationship between the accuracy,fluency and complexity of English writing? 3.What kind of cognitive students do well in English writing?This study uses the dynamic research method to carry on the case tracking investigation,combines the individual interview analysis as well as the writing achievement change,and attempts to carry on the systematic research to the field dependence(FD)and the field independence(FI)junior high school student English writing output accuracy,the fluency and the complexity,in order to comprehensively recognize the student’s cognitive style,with the future English writing teaching practice as its target in the future English writing teaching practice.Based on previous researches,the author plans to test 85 students in class one and class two,grade nine,DaWulan junior high school,Qinglong County,Qinhuangdao City,by using the Group Embedded Figures Test(GEFT).According to the test scores,the top 10 students are the objects of field independence cognitive style survey and the last 10 students are the objects of field dependent cognitive style survey.These 20 students are requested to finish five times English writing tests in September,October,November,December in 2019 and January in 2020 respectively and analyzed the data with SPSS software.This study reveals that: 1.The accuracy,fluency and complexityof English writing of junior high school students with field dependence and field independence develop in a wave-like way rather than in a non-linear way;2.The accuracy,fluency and complexity of English writing are independence as well as inseparable in the development process;3.Field independence cognitive style learner is slightly better than field dependent cognitive style in English writing.The results of this study are of great significance to the teaching and learning of English writing.Through the research,the author aims to find out the relationship between cognitive style and English composition output,and puts forward suggestions for English writing teaching and improves the teaching level.However,this study is only a case study and given the fact that its scope is relatively limited,and there are some deficiencies in it,it is hoped that a deeper and more comprehensive study will be conducted in the future.
