Writing,as an important skill among the four basic skills of listening,speaking,reading and writing in English teaching,is considered as not only an important symbol to measure students’ language ability,but also an objective way to reflect students’ comprehensive pragmatic competence.However,the teaching of English writing has always been the weak part of English Teaching in junior middle school,and the single teaching mode is common in English teaching.Therefore,how to solve the students’ difficulties in writing and improve their English writing ability become problems that teachers and students need to solve urgently.Cooperative learning,as a major model in English teaching,has been widely recognized by all countries in the world.Students are put in the center of learning in cooperative learning,which aims to guide students to combine autonomous learning with teamwork together to finish the tasks in group,stimulate students’ enthusiasm for communication and enhance students’ interests in English learning.This paper aims to explore the effects of cooperative learning on students with different cognitive styles and tries to explore the combination of group cooperative learning with English writing in junior middle school.Sixty students from Class 6,Grade 8 of Jiangnan Middle School in Hangzhou are concerned in the experiment.The research lasts almost four months from September to December in 2017.In order to ensure the reliability and success of the experiment,the author chooses interview,questionnaires and experiment as the main methods to do this research.The research questions are as follows:1.What are the attitudes of students with different cognitive styles towards cooperative learning?2.What are the different effects of cooperative writing approach on students with different cognitive styles?(the author mainly explores writing confidence,writing strategies and writing motivation)3.How can cooperative learning improve writing achievements of students with different cognitive styles? What are their performances? The results of the study indicated that:1.Most students agreed that cooperative learning is an effective way to increase their writing abilities.All students participated in the writing activities actively after cooperative learning compared with before the study.2.Cooperative learning has aroused students’ interest in writing,improved the writing strategy and enhanced students’ confidence in English writing.3.Cooperative learning could improve students’ writing achievements,including grammar,vocabulary,logical of sentence,etc.It is more effective for students in field dependent than field independent.All in all,the application of cooperative learning on English writing teaching can improve students’ writing ability and solve some problems in writing.
