The Research On Manchukuo’s Sports And Japan’s Colonial Domination

After September 18 th Incident,Japanese forces occupied Northeast China quickly.It was not only an important step to establish a new international system,but also a key of Japan’s world plan.After establishing Puppet Manchukuo,it was time to consider how to dominate Northeast China,especially to control people there.There were less culture and language barriers in sports.Almost all the people could take part in sports activities and be influenced by colonialist ideology unconsciously.Thus,colonialists chose to take sports as the cheap tool to discipline people.Japanese colonialists managed puppet government to develop sports to achieve their goals.It could be seen that sports played a crucial role in Puppet Manchukuo.Therefore,sports also reflected the ways,characteristics and purposes of colonial rule to some degree.This study aimed to analyze sports documentations from the East Asian perspective using with Michel Foucault and others’ body theory.In addition,by comparing with the domestic sports of Japan,this thesis would also discuss about the approaches of colonialists when they developed sports to achieve their goals,especially influenced people with heavy colonial propaganda.The authors considers: Firstly,Puppet Manchukuo’s sports were not only copied from Japan,but also absorbed some traditional sports of Northeast China.Based on the development of the former,puppet government established sports administrative organizations and group organizations.Some facilities were established,and newspapers and magazines were found.Then,colonialists focused on school sports,at the same time,they developed social sports for all.They quickly adjusted their strategies at different stages.Through the heavy propaganda of ethnic harmony,founding spirit,Bushido spirit etc,the people of Northeast might be affected by the colonial ideology unconsciously.At the same time,they would also be forced to work or struggle for colonialists to establish a new Japan-centered order.Last but not least,although Puppet Manchukuo’s sports made some progress,they were served for colonial rule.People in the Northeast used sports to fight against colonial rule.
