| As a winner of the Nobel Prize in literature,Toni Morrison is an outstanding black female writer in contemporary America.Home, published in 2012,is Morrison’s tenth novel.Since its publication,it has been highly concerned by experts and scholars at home and abroad. At present, most of the articles and papers focus on the theme analysis, trauma theory, narrative strategy and the perspective of comparison with Morrison’s previous works. It is a new attempt to interpret Home from the perspective of ecological criticism.Ecological criticism is the combination of literary research and contemporary ecological thoughts. It is the extensive response to ecological crisis.Based on Lu Shuyuan’s theory of "ecological trisection",this thesis studies the social ecology and spiritual ecology embodied in Home from the perspective of ecological criticism. On this basis, this thesis briefly combs Morrison’s creative ideas and research status at home and abroad, and puts forward the significance of this study. The main part of the thesis explains the ecological thought embodied in Home from social and spiritual aspects.Racial discrimination and alienated family relationship have brought deep social harm to the growth of Frank and Cee.At the same time, the distorted social relations and the cruelty of war lead to the imbalance of human spiritual ecology.Through the help of the black community to Cee and the reunion between Frank and Cee,Morrison’s social ecological thought of mutual assistance, equality and harmonious coexistence between people is demonstrated. Finally,Frank and Cee realized self-salvation and self-cognition reconstruction, and saved ecological crisis of the black spirit. In a word,Morrison pays attention to the relationship between man, nature and society, and advocates that only by returning to nature,inter-ethnic tolerance and fraternity, can we truly build an ecologically harmonious home. |
