Las Putin is a very famous local writer in Russian contemporary literature. Most of his works call on people to cherish the basis of our human being and make every effort to protect our planet. To achieve this aim, we should treasure the connection between people and their home, native land and tradition as well. Besides this, he has also explored the ways and means to cope with ecological crisis. In my preface, I give a brief background introduction to ecological literary criticism,Russian ecological literature and the works of Las Putin. The organization and the importance of my thesis are also included in the preface. The thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter gives a discussion of s series of relations between men and their native land, tradition, modernization and nature. k also analyzes the view that we human beings should protect our planet, which is emphasized in Las Putin's works again and again. My second chapter expounds Las Putin's ways to cope with the ecological problems and makes a thorough analysis of the ecological problems in Las Putin's writing. The third chapter is the most important one. In this chapter, I focus on the essence of Las Putin's ecological writing—the spiritual ecology, which is of greater importance than natural ecology and social ecology. In his works, Las Putin tries to solve the ecological problems by sticking to religion and national tradition. Only in this way, can Russian people cope with the spiritual crisis. Las Putin's appeal to religious belief should be singled out as a notable cultural phenomenon in the 1990's Russian society. The conclusion I draw is: The break—up of the balance between human being and nature results from the corruption of human nature and the absence of belief. The basic way to solve this problem is to stick to Russian national tradition. We should keep it in mind that land to people is like blood to water. Blood is thicker than water. We should treasure the land. Try to keep the balance between the development and the ecological environment, only in this way can we benefit from our development and better our life.
