| Wuzhou has been an important town of history, culture, economy and transportation in Guangxi since Qin dynasty and Han dynasty. In the Qing dynasty,it was still a waterway fortress connecting Hunan and Guangdong.During this period,Vietnamese envoys in the Qing dynasty traveled north to China. They entered Guangxi from Zhennan Guan(today’s Youyi Guan in Pingxiang city,Guangxi province)on the border between China and Vietnam. They first traveled by land, then by water to Hunan or Guangdong, and then went north to Beijing, and then returned to Vietnam by the original route. In this round trip, these Vietnamese envoys all left their poetic traces in Wuzhou,Guangxi province. The document integration of Yanxing wrote Chinese by Vietnam includes 218 Chinese poems sung by 35 Vietnamese envoys in the Qing dynasty, which are of considerable quantity and quality in theirs’ Guangxi poetry. The contents of the poems sung by the envoys to Wuzhou are rich and colorful. They not only song the scenery, life, and historical sites of Wuzhou but also the tribute and singing among Vietnamese envoys, between envoys and local literati in the Qing dynasty, which show the scenery and social life of Wuzhou in the Qing Dynasty from the perspective of Vietnamese envoys.Among envoys’ poems, the most remarkable one is the exploration of the ‘Jiuyi-land’ of China by several generations of envoys.Vietnamese envoys also wrote poems to yearn of Shi Xie,a Wuzhou man in the late eastern Han dynasty and early Three Kingdoms. In the poems of the Vietnamese envoys, there is usually a preface,It is not only the report of their missions when returning, but also reflects their poetic history consciousness influenced by the academic historical research of the Qing dynasty. They also made good use of allusions in Chinese and skillfully combined them in their Chinese poems. In addition, they also imitated the form and theme of Chinese poetry writing, blending the feeling with the scene, showing the rich accumulation of Han culture of the envoys. Therefore, the reason why Vietnamese envoys sang Wuzhou poems in the Qing dynasty is related to the influence of Chinese Confucian works on Vietnamese literati, and Tang poetry on Vietnamese Chinese poetry. It is also related to the continuous "poetic diplomacy" between China and Vietnam. The value of Wuzhou poems sung by Vietnamese envoys is a new confirmation of local historical materials in Wuzhou,Guangxi. It’s also a supplement to the microscopic study of Vietnamese ancient Chinese poetry.Base on these poems can reproduce the truth of the suzerain-vassal relationship between China and Vietnam in the Qing dynasty. At the same time,it is also the integration and development of Chinese Shun culture in Vietnam and even in the East Asian cultural circle. |
