The author from the perspective of identity issues about Sigmar Polke.After the second world war,global split pattern situation and globalization during the late 20 th century which as the artist’s growth background.We can find some clues about identity issues in the interviews and sketches.According to the topic,it distinguishes and connects artist’s attitude and his cultural identity,social identity and the creativity.This article is divided into six chapters.First chapter expounds Polk’s early painting attitude and identity through different aspects which comparing the raster paintings during the period of capitalist realism with the contemporary pop paintings.The second chapter discusses Polk ’s attitude to modernism through modernist paintings and potato series installations.In the third chapter shows the artist uses experimental materials,videos,magazines,pictures,photographs as new painting materials and shows his political attitudes and cultural identity;Chapters four and five search the impact of German background on Polk in the second half of the twentieth century and finally;Chapter six discusses the identity influences to contemporary painting.Facing of different cultural backgrounds in the globalization environment,the art world today pays more and more attention to the construction of regional cultural identities in the works.This article combines the identity research in today’s art to carry out the relationship between individual appeals and cultural ideology which hopefully to explore more creative ideas and try to explore new directions for contemporary art creation.
