Exploration Of Gu Shengyue’s Meticulous Figure Painting

Gu Shengyue,one of the five founders of Zhejiang portraiture in the 20 th century,devotes entire efforts for meticulous figure painting renaissance and reforming Chinese painting’s figure sculpt teaching.From cradle to grave,he makes Zhejiang meticulous figure painting have the artistic character both in realism and impressionism.By decades,piece by piece,He draws down sincere sketches and meticulous works to remark every warmth in his simple life.Gu Shengyue’s achievement sets a model for generations of students.His practical art experiments also need our further inspect.Up to now,existing literatures on Gu Shengyue mainly focus on introducing his lifetime in art,his meticulous figure painting and his articles on teaching and improvement of traditional meticulous figure painting.This paper start from gathered images,combining with related literatures and information,using methods of comparison,citation,analysis,illustration,and systematically analyzes Gu Shengyue ’s development on his artistic figure painting style,also his sketches’ s impact on his artwork and innovation on picture form.In order to sum up his contribution to the reform of traditional meticulous figure painting.This paper will analyze from four perspectives.The first chapter expounds the evolution and characteristic of Gu’s figure painting.The second chapter combs through the influence on his meticulous figure painting form,teaching method and original work.The third chapter analyzes the new form of Gu’s meticulous figure painting.Finally,it summarizes Gu Shengyue’s innovation standpoint on figure painting’s artistic expression and I narrates his artwork influence on myself within my own create experience.
