A Report On The Translation Of Internet Soft News Translation From The Perspective Of Relevance Theory

As the information age develops,reading Internet news through smart phones has become a part of everyone’daily life.And the translation of Internet news has also gained the attention of scholars.This paper analyzes Internet soft news translation from the perspective of Relevance Theory,summarizing the guidance of Relevance Theory on Internet soft news translation.Gutt’s Relevance Theory starts with the optimal relevance,and takes translation,the communicative activity between two languages,as a ostensive-inferential process,where translators first infer the communicative intention of source text and the cognitive environment of target readers,then use appropriate translation methods to allow target readers to understand the translation with least processing efforts,reaching the optimal relevance between communicative intention of the source text and target readers’ expectation.The analysis texts of the Report are soft news published on China Daily Wechat Official Accounts Platform,including social news and some inspiring or interesting articles.The Report introduces the whole process of the translation practice,and analyzes how to flexibly use translation methods under the guidance of the Relevance Theory to make translation conform to English news norms and meet the expectation of target readers.The Report mainly consists of four chapters: the first chapter is Description of Translation,which introduces the background and contents of the translation,and analyzes lexical and syntactical features of the source texts,preparing for translation;the second chapter is Introduction to Translating Process,including translation preparation,translation,post-translation review;the third chapter is Case Studies,which introduces the Relevance Theory,selects 12 sentences as cases to summarizes translation methods and analyze how the Relevance Theory guide the translation of headlines and texts;the fourth chapter is Conclusion,which concludes gains and reflections of the translation.
