A Study Of English Neologisms And Its Translation On China Daily Website

The change of vocabulary is a mirror of the development of contemporary society and the change of spiritual culture,English as the most widely used language in the world,its new words are "trendsetters" and leaders in vocabulary.China is eager to understand the world,and the world is actively seeking cooperation with China.The study of neologisms can not only eliminate the communication barriers between China and other countries,but also have great practical significance to understand the changes of the times.Lexicon are the most active and sensitive part of the language system,and neologisms are the energetic labels of lexicon.Understanding the rules of word formation,translation methods,and the cognitive process of meaning construction in English neologisms has great theoretical significance for studying the trend of language development.This paper is based on the English neologisms in the "Language Tips" channel of China Daily website from 2013 to 2018.Firstly,on the basis of previous studies,the definition of English neologisms are discussed.Secondly,on the basis of qualitative research,this paper summarizes the word formation of English neologisms by using the theory of structuralist linguistics.Through the literature analysis method,the translation methods of English neologisms are summarized under the guidance of translation theory.The following problems can be found: most of the research on the word formation of English neologisms is reflected in the classification and analysis of the formed neologisms,but there is little research on how to construct the meaning under the classification.How to improve translation skills is discussed in translation methods,but there is little research on the translator’s psychological cognition process.The semantic construction and translation cognition constitute the basis of English neologism translation,and the exploration of the two laws is also the entry point to solve the problems in English neologisms translation.In many theories,we find that the Conceptual Integration Theory in cognitive semantics has a strong explanatory power to them.This paper links Conceptual Integration Theory with the word formation and translation methods of English neologisms respectively.Under the classification of word formation,this paper analyzes the meaning construction process of English new words under the theory of concept integration by means of chart analysis.Not only discusses the translation method of English neologisms,but also analyzes the problems in the translation process.Finally,this paper uses translation methods as the classification,through the Concept Integration Network explores the translator’s psychological process of English neologisms translating under different translation methods.This is not only the emphasis of this paper,but also the most important innovation.In short,this paper makes a systematic study of English neologisms,not only summarizes its definition,word formation and translation methods,analyzes the process of the meaning constructing of English neologisms and the cognitive process of translation under the Conceptual Integration Theory.It has certain theoretical significance to enrich the research content of English neologisms.In practice,it is found that the conceptual integration network not only has some explanatory power for the construction of new words’ meaning,but also has consistency for the translation process of translators.This study will help to broaden the systematic study of English neologisms and improve the methods of its Chinese translation.
