| With the acceleration of globalization and development of multicultural education background, more and more people have begun to learn the third and even the fourth language, and multilingual teaching research has emerged under such situation.Multilingual learners have both first language and second language knowledge. In the process of acquiring more than two languages, students are inclined to rely on the weaker foreign language knowledge they have learned previously to speculate on the foreign language they are learning, that is,the learner is strongly influenced by the second language. For university English majors, most people have studied English for nearly a decade before entering university, and they understand most foreign language phenomena through English learning. Therefore,in the process of learning Japanese,it is inevitable to do so on the basis of their Chinese and second foreign language. To improve the teaching effect and the learning efficiency of learners,it is necessary to study the transfer from Chinese and English by Japanese learners under the guidance of third language acquisition theory. The subject in this study is 80 senior students who are major in English in a foreign language university in China. They all choose Japanese as their second foreign language and the order of learning is Chinese,English and Japanese.Qualitative and quantitative methods are used in this study, including questionnaire, interview,SPSS,vocabulary test, contrastive analysis and error analysis to answer the following questions:1)What’s the positive lexical transfer from Chinese(L1)to Japanese(L3)for English majors? What’s the negative lexical transfer from Chinese(L1)to Japanese(L3)for English majors?2)What’s the positive lexical transfer from English(L2)to Japanese(L3)for English majors? What’s the negative lexical transfer from English(L2)to Japanese(L3)for English majors?3)For teachers, how to distinguish the positive transfer and negative transfer from Chinese(L1)to Japanese(L3)and English(L2)to Japanese(L3)?The study of language transfer in Third Language Acquisition started relatively late and is insufficient which needs further development. Therefore, this study can enrich the development of third language acquisition in China. In addition,as economic globalization has increased the demand for bilingual and multilingual talents, foreign language majors in colleges and universities in China have established double foreign language majors on the basis of "foreign language major + second foreign language".At present, most of the domestic researches focus on Chinese,English and European languages, and there are few studies on Chinese,English and Japanese students. Therefore, the results of this study will provide a good reference for Chinese,English and Japanese teachers to teach and students to learn the third language. |
