As an important part of English teaching in senior high school,writing accounts for an increased proportion in college entrance examination,which attracts much attention of teachers and gives them directions to the English teaching in senior high school.However,in the current English writing teaching,the teachers lay more emphasis on language usage,such as lexical,grammatical and syntactical aspects,less on writing competence aspects.There are still logical and structural problems,such as Chinese-writing logic,language fragmentation,lack of fluency coherence and cohesion,even content emptiness in students’ writing.The combination mode of reading and writing is a mode which combines reading with writing in English writing teaching,and its essence is transforming thinking pattern into writing competence.Based on the problems in the current English writing teaching in senior high school in China,the teachers can attempt to apply the combination mode of reading and writing into English writing teaching.Many scholars have explored the theory and teaching method of the combination mode of reading and writing,and obtained practical achievements.This thesis analyzes the current situation of the research on the combination mode of reading and writing at home and abroad,based on the theory of input and output and previous theoretical studies about writing,straightens out the internal relationship between reading and writing,and thus forms a five-step teaching method that combines reading and writing.In this way,the thinking pattern of reading can be incorporated into writing,which can interest students in terms of writing and gradually helps them improve their writing competence.In order to verify the effectiveness of this teaching mode,the author conducts a one-semester experiment with text method,empirical method,questionnaire method and interviewing method in a senior high school in Liaocheng City.Before the experiment,firstly,the author collects the students’ total scores and writing scores through the test to know the students’ English writing level.Then,to fully know more about the problems in English writing teaching,the author investigates teachers’ commonly used methods in writing teaching and students’ performance in writing learning in the form of interviews and questionnaires.During the experiment,the author adopts the combination mode of reading and writing in the experimental class while the traditional writing method is adopted in the control class.After the experiment,the author collects students’ total scores and writing scores through the test and takes them as experiment data.The result confirms the positive effect of the combination mode of reading and writing on English writing in senior high school.Finally,the author interviews the experiment subjects to learn more about their opinions on the combination mode of reading and writing.It is found that the combination mode of reading and writing not only develops students’ interest and performance but also improves their language expression ability.With the initial achievement made in English writing teaching,the combination mode of reading and writing realizes an organic combination of language input and output,transforms language knowledge from quantity into quality,and provides an empirical study case for other teachers.
