Writing is one of the four basic language skills that every English language learner is supposed to acquire,which plays a significant role in language learning.Thus,writing is worth paying more attention in English teaching.However,English writing is a quite weak link in the English teaching of senior high school and still has a great number of problems.Therefore,based on discourse analysis theory,Krashen's input hypothesis and Swain's output hypothesis,the study,taking the relationship between reading and writing into consideration,aims to combine reading and writing and apply it to English writing teaching in senior high school,which mainly answers the following three questions:1)What is the situation of English writing teaching in the target senior high school?2)Can the combination model of reading and writing based on discourse analysis be more effective than the regular writing teaching method in improving students' English writing ability in senior high school?3)What are the major specific effects that the combination model of reading and writing based on discourse analysis will bring to the writing of students?To deal with the three questions,118 students of Grade One from NO.1 High School of Guiyang participate in this 16-week experiment.The author is responsible for the teaching of English writing in these two classes.The combination model of reading and writing based on discourse analysis is adopted in the experimental group while the controlled group still adopts the regular writing teaching method in the teaching of writing.Research instruments such as interview,questionnaire and tests are adopted in the study,and the experimental data is analyzed by SPSS.The study reveals that the English writing scores of the students in the experimental group are higher than these in the controlled group,which indicates the combination model of reading and writing based on discourse analysis can be a more effective teaching method to make contribution to improving students' English writing performance.It can be beneficial to enrich the contents of English discourse topics and make the students better understand how to organize and plan their writing discourse structures.Besides,this model can improve the students' awareness of the role that the cohesive devices play in the discourse.What's more,this model can make the students try to apply more newly learned words and the advanced expressions in their writing.At last,according to the findings in the study,the author puts forward some suggestions for the improvement of the current situation of English writing teaching in senior high school and the enhancement of the students' English writing ability.
